PTSD & SUD cannot be treated effectively in an outpatient setting

Operation Forgotten Heroes | Effectively Treating Vets and Their Families

VA benefits will not pay for effective treatment for ptsd and substance abuse. Imagine a combat vet who has given all, suffered all and goes into VA or calls to find help and only finds roadblock after roadblock as he discovers his VA insurance will only cover government associated treatment. (Which is utterly failing these men and their families)!

Suicides Per Day

  • 2019 17 per day, 120 per week, 6200 per year vets are committing suicide every day (mental health.VA.gov)

  • 2022, 22 per day. 26% interest One vet every hour!-see graph

  • Reasons for these suicides is not just PTSD, it’s ptsd combined with drug and alcohol dependence!

What Can Be Done?

  • PTSD alone can be treated effectively in an outpatient setting but someone with both PTSD and a Substance Use Disorder will almost always assess to needing residential/ inpatient treatment. Effective inpatient services are costly and government insurance won’t cover.

  • OFH Partners with private, well vetted programs willing to cut their costs in half in order to help these men and women.

  • We need your help to cover the other half.

  • SUD and PTSD are extremely complicated to treat. Requires comprehensive approach including:

-Accurate evaluations and diagnostics

-Skillful, prudent medical treatment

-Evidence based clinical mental health and trauma treatment

-Family support, education and therapy Please Donate Now.
